Program Description: |
Whetstone High School reaches out to students from every single neighborhood in Columbus. For some of these students, the performing arts is a driving force that makes them an integral part of our community. As we continue to work to sustain our role as one of the strongest music programs in Columbus City Schools, we keep in mind our need to attract the highest quality students to our school to increase our overall profile.
One aspect we are striving to improve is the technology in the music department. We are striving to raise funds for a Yamaha Clavinova, model CVP-605, for use in all aspects of the department. We are also seeking funding to add support to our auditorium's sound system, which is in dire need of improvements. |
Impact Of Grant: |
The music department, as a whole, is to be funded through this grant proposal. The following items would be used through this grant:
-A Yamaha Clavinova, Model CVP-605, would be purchased for use within the entire music department. This high-tech, digital keyboard is an essential for any high school music curriculum that wishes to use multi-media technology for both education and performance. The Clavinova can be used in rehearsal through its multi-track recording capabilities, programming of materials for music theater performances, its several hundred different voicing styles and arrangements that can be used in several different areas. Many schools in central Ohio have at least one of these instruments, and in efforts to promote the use of technology, we here at Whetstone have a need for this kind of high quality instrument to improve our standing in technology.
-The grant would also be used to provide funding for improvements to our sound system in our auditorium (approximately $4,500 in funding). Presently our sound board, speakers and microphones are all free standing and portable, and we badly lack a built-in sound board with overhead speakers to help monitoring sound for people on the stage. This is especially crucial for our concerts and music theater presentations. |
