School Name:  Ridgewood Elementary School
Program Name:  Personalized Learning & Collaborative Spaces
District Name:  Hilliard City Schools
Program Category:  Connect
Program Description:  We have had rows of desks and chairs facing the front of the classroom for over 200 years! It is time to redesign our school spaces so that students can collaborate with each other and the adults at school as they work on lessons designed around their learning styles, interests, and skills. Imagine comfortable, colorful seating arrangements that allow students to work in small groups on the floor, on fabric-covered benches or couches, or at small tables. They have available to them laptops, tablets, and other devices that adapt what they are learning to their instructional level. Students’ work on-line is organized in a dashboard so that their teacher can see exactly what students are working on and where they need help. Students are able to pursue topics and projects that interest them and collaborate with peers that share those interests. Teachers are able to help students define their projects, connect them with resources, and help them decide how to show what they know. School becomes an interesting, exciting place that students can’t wait to get to! Help us fulfill this vision by funding new, creative furniture and technology to personalize learning for our students!
Impact Of Grant:  The money from the grant would go towards transforming the media center (library) into a collaborate learning space with new areas for students and classes to work together on projects. Out goes many of the traditional tables and chairs, and in comes couches, fabric covered benches, bean bag style chairs low to the ground, all flexible so that they can be arranged and rearranged into groupings that meet the learning needs of students. The money would also go towards technology and adaptive programming that would allow students to access reading and math programs that focus on their particular instructional levels, whether that is above, at, or below their current grade level. All students will be challenged and engaged right where they need to be.
